Tech stocks tumbled on Monday morning after leaders at some of the biggest artificial intelligence companies called on the industry to slow down production of the advanced technology over the weekend.
Despite heightened volatility analysts remain optimistic over the outlook of the tech sector, with J.P. Morgan saying the tech sell-off had not derailed the AI investment cycle.
The S&P 500 was struggling on Friday afternoon, dragged down by sharp declines in a handful of Big Tech stocks. Tesla’s shares were slumping 6.5%, while shares of Apple, Microsoft and Google parent Alphabet were also down sharply.
